Robin Hood series 1 : Video clips"You're declining my invitation?"In this scene from episode 5, Guy of Gisborne (Richard Armitage) has come to ask Marian (Lucy Griffiths) to accompany him to the Nottingham Fair. Earlier in the day, he had nearly caught the masked Nightwatchman, but managed only to inflict a slight wound. This scene takes place shortly after an earlier episode in which Marian's hair was cut off as a punishment for defying the Sheriff. Her father, Sir Edward, is played by Michael Elwyn. At this point in the series, Marian is still keeping Guy at arm's length. She does not welcome his attentions to her, but thinks it wise not to reject him. "A matter of loyalty"This excerpt from episode 9 shows the Sheriff (Keith Allen) manipulating Guy of Gisborne. Gisborne's friend Lambert has invented a "black powder" (gunpowder) that the Sheriff wants control of. Lambert is now in the castle dungeon, but Gisborne has promised Marian that he will try to save him. The Sheriff has other ideas. This scene typifies the relationship between the two men, particularly the way the Sheriff is able to work on Gisborne's insecurities and doubts and undermine him.
