Episode 5 - Ducking and Diving
Gisborne goes to meet his spy... |
... who tells him that Robin is planning to intercept Henry of Lewes on his way to the castle before he can betray to the Sheriff news of where King Richard will be landing when he returns to England. |
Gisborne reports to the Sheriff the safe arrival of Henry of Lewes... |
...but Henry is ill and unconscious and so unable to deliver his news yet. |
The Sheriff's physician cannot rouse him, so Gisborne is ordered to find a 'quack' who will do the job. |
Gisborne seizes Matilda, the wise woman, who is not happy at being taken away from her pregnant daughter. "Hairy, pig-witted fox turd!" she spits at him. |
Gisborne is unimpressed. |
Back at the castle, Matilda continues to insult Gisborne ("slimy little snot-head"), Blight the physician ("the maggot's mate") and the Sheriff ("baldy"). |
"Couldn't you find a civil-tongued wise woman?" asks the Sheriff. "Apparently she's the one the civil-tongued wise women go to," replies Gisborne. |
Marian wants to have a day unchaperoned by the guards. |
"You're up to something," he says. "Yes, I'm charming you!" she says. |
Gisborne motions the guard away. |
"But you stay in the castle." |
Gisborne goes to the Trip Inn to find his spy... |
...but he's aware that Marian is following him. |
Later, he waits to confront her. |
"You disobeyed me." |
She pretends she wanted to spend time with him. |
He's not entirely convinced, but she takes his arm and they walk off together. |
Marian wants to protest as the Sheriff sentences Matilda to the ducking stool, but Gisborne motions her to silence. |
He takes her aside. "Say nothing. These allegations spread by association. There's nothing you can do for her." |
"Did I leave you to die," she retorts, "when you were being drowned?" |
Gisborne, Marian and the Sheriff watch the ducking. |
