Spooks series 9 : Video clips

Trailer

This trailer was shown on BBC One in the week leading up to the start of the series.

Episode 1

"It's not really you, is it?"

This short scene from the end of the episode sets up a story that will unfold during the rest of the series. As he walks along the river at the end of a day in which disaster has been narrowly averted, Lucas North (Richard Armitage) encounters a face from the past... (Iain Glen).

Episode 2

"Beth?"

Section D has been tipped off that the Nigerian government has hired an assassin to kill Robert Westhouse, a British oil billionaire. Lucas and Beth (Sophia Myles) are undercover at the Maybury Hotel in London, as several oil traders arrive to meet Westhouse in the hotel's penthouse. Beth, posing as an oil trader, goes up in the lift with them, knowing that one of them is the assassin. But the lift suddenly stops, the doors open, and gunmen spray the lift with bullets, killing several people.

In the first scene in this clip, Lucas reaches the lift and finds Beth alive. Then they notice another survivor, Jacob Chapman (Nigel Lindsay). The second scene takes place later that day. Chapman has been brought to MI5 where Lucas and Beth question him, suspicious about why he was in the lift and managed to survive the atack.

The suitcase

Lucas opens the suitcase that Vaughn left him at the end of the previous episode. Amongst the photographs inside it, he sees another face from the past, Maya (Laila Rouass).

"I just wanted to try and explain"

As with the previous episode, it's a scene that hints tantalisingly at Lucas' past that ends the episode. Somewhat suprisingly, Maya does turn up at the meeting place Lucas suggested earlier.

Episode 3

"I just need a file"

Vaughn turns up again. And this time he wants something from Lucas.

"Why did you let me believe you were dead?"

Yet again, the final scene is Lucas's. Earlier in the episode, Lucas asked Maya to meet him, this time at his house. And again she arrives, seemingly against her better judgement.

Episode 4

"It's early"

This scene from the beginning of the episode apparently follows on from the end of the previous episode.

"Let me do this my way"

This clip contains a sequence of four short scenes. In the first, Beth meets a Chinese asset, Kai (Benedict Wong) whom she's been trying to turn. He recently supplied her with some vital information that helped in a Section D operation. Now, watched from a distance by Lucas and Dimitri (Max Brown) she tries to find out whether she can trust him as an informant. Lucas receives a phone call from Vaughn; pretending that he suspects they're being tailed, he goes off to take the call. Later, Tariq (Shazad Latif) runs a lie detector test on Kai.

Episode 5

"OK, I'm in the room"

Section D is in charge of security at secret peace talks between the Israelis and Palestinians in London, chaired by the president of the USA. They've uncovered a plot to wreck the talks, and have tracked a suspect to a room in a hostel. Lucas goes to search the room.

"Laptop from the flat"

Afer a chase in which Lucas is injured and loses the suspect, he returns to the Grid with the laptop he found in the flat.

"You both need to see this"

Ruth (Nicola Walker) has discovered the identity of the man Lucas was chasing. And Tariq has discovered what's on the laptop.

Episode 6

"Tell me what you want me to do"

In the first scene of the episode, Lucas takes a call from Vaughn.

"I'm just stuck in traffic"

Lucas has been told to meet and escort back to MI5 an American cryptographer. She holds the codes that need to be used to install the CIA's security system, Cybershell, on the Grid. But on his way to collect her, he makes an excuse to Harry (Peter Firth) and goes to meet Vaughn.

"Hey, James Bond..."

After his meeting with Vaughn, Lucas collects the American cryptographer, Daniella Ortiz (Fiona Glascott).

"Malcolm, it's Harry"

But on the way back to MI5 with Daniella, Lucas stops to call on an old MI5 friend, Malcom Wynn-Jones (Hugh Simon), now retired. It's not a social call...

Episode 7

"So, what's up?"

Harry has started digging into an unsolved case from 1995. In this first scene of the episode, he takes Lucas to meet a contact who is promising some information about it.

"Where is she?"

Vaughn has taken Maya prisoner and hidden her. Lucas, desperate to find her, tells Vaughn that he has the Albany file, and arranges to meet him in Southwark Park. Beth has followed Lucas to the park.

Lucas North

After the previous scene, Beth takes Lucas to see Harry. Lucas has previously admitted to being in Dakar at the time of the incident Harry has been looking into. Beth later discovered that there was a man living there at the time with a rather interesting name.

Harry demands an explanation, and in a long and intense scene, Lucas finally reveals his past.

While the entire scene constitutes a massive spoiler, this short clip shows only the beginning of the conversation, in which we learn Lucas' real name. But it's enough to show Harry's tremendous sense of betrayal at what his protegee is telling him.

Episode 8

"Where's Vaughn?"

Lucas meets Yimou (Hi Ching) to make a deal. Spoiler warning - this clip inevitably sheds some light on what happened in the previous episode.

"Why, Lucas?"

A scene between Lucas and Ruth. Lucas has a bargaining counter...

This clip too is something of a spoiler, in which there's a brief, though incomplete, reference to what Albany actually is.
