Cat's out of the bag
"A moment's respite"
It's Dr Tom Steele's (Richard Armitage) first day as a locum at the Riverside practice. During morning surgery, the senior partner, Dr Helen Thompson ( Corrine Wicks), comes to see him.
"I've got a patient"
One of Tom's patients, Mrs Morrison (Helen Blatch), is less than impressed with his attitude.
"You're the boss"
It was Tom's friend Dr Marc Eliot (Tom Butcher) who brought Tom in to cover for an absent colleague, but without asking Helen first. Earlier in the day they had argued about it, but now she apologises.
"I've got to go"
That evening, Tom is providing emergency cover for the call-out service. He had other plans for the evening, but then he's called out to see a young girl with asthma, Stella (Tasmine Airey). Having seen her at the surgery earlier in the day, he thinks her mother (Carol Starks) is fussing unnecessarily about her condition. Stella's father (George Jakob) is angry at his attitude.
Good Companions
"Loopy old lady"
Tom is called to see Edith (Sheila Clancy), an elderly lady who is showing signs of dementia. She's the companion of Grace Widdrington.
"She's clearly in the early stages of dementia"
After seeing Edith, Tom speaks to Douglas (Michael Tudor Barnes), Grace's son. Grace (Maggie Holland) wants to take care of Edith, but Douglas is worried that it will be expensive and thus reduce his inheritance. In the second scene of this clip, Grace and Douglas argue about what is to be done with Edith.
"You're fired"
Helen has had enough of Tom.
"She sacked me"
Tom tells Marc that he's been sacked. Marc goes to see Helen to plead for his friend, but Helen is adamant that Tom must go. The practice's other locum, Dr Ben Kwarme (Ariyon Bakare) looks on as Tom leaves.
